A leading Swedish politician says the country is facing a refugee catastrophe, which will lead to the “country collapsing.” The bold claims were made by Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, who adds the EU needs to do more to take the strain off Stockholm.
The northern European country expects to accommodate around 190,000 by the turn of the year, but this is putting a strain on the country both economically and socially. Wallstrom says that Stockholm needs more help and intends to put pressure on European Union member states to take a greater share of the burden the continent is facing from the refugee crisis in the Middle East and Africa. THERE is no doubt in my mind that it would be easier for a leopard to change its spots than for the Swedish media to change its bias stance against Eritrea. It is no secret that media in Sweden is in general a very bias within its own echelons, and very much so, depending on its party colors.
Arhe Hamednaca is an Eritrea born Swedish parliamentarian who belongs to the Social Democratic party (S) since 2010 and he is listed as the fifth name on the Candidate list in Stockholm for the coming general election.
It is with deep remorse and regret that the Eritrean community in Sweden learnt of the shocking and unjustified announcement that the Swedish government declared Tekle Menghistu, first secretary at the Eritrean diplomatic mission in Stockholm persona non grata and subsequently deported him.
The Swedish Foreign Office admits the authenticity of the event but refrains from either commenting or justifying the decision, as has been government policy to never publicize specifics about diplomatic deportations.
Eritrea, a sovereign state in the so-called Horn of Africa became independent from neighboring Ethiopia in 1993. The country has a population of around 6 million.
