Steve Cummings (Dimension Data) attacked with around 27km to go on stage seven to take a stunning solo victory on stage seven of the Tour de France.

The Briton’s win caps of a sensational first week for his team Dimenson Data, who have now taken four wins from the seven stages after Mark Cavendish‘s three sprint victories.

Cummings had clearly targeted the 162.5km stage, which took in the category one Col d’Aspin and finished on a small rise after the descent in Lac de Payolle, working hard to make sure he was in the large breakaway group that got away. Tirreno-Adriatico #4: Steve Cummings 1st, Natnael Berhane 3rd

The 4th stage of Tirreno-Adriatico 2016 was the first World Tour victory for Team Dimension Data as well as for the Eritrean Road Race National Champion Natnael Berhane – his first World Tour Podium win.

The 4th stage of Tirreno-Adriatico turned out to be a dream day for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka as Steve Cummings took the victory ahead of Salvatore Puccio (Team Sky) with teammate Eritrean National Road Race Champion Natnael Berhane finishing in 3rd position.

The Eritrean pride Natnael Berhane has won numerous stage races in his pro cyclist carreer for instance winning the overall General Classification of Tropicale Amissa Bongo in 2014 and the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey in 2013.

Attacks started to fly from the front group with Steve Cummings and Natnael Berhane covering each one, hoping to keep the race together for Boasson Hagen. Puccio then put in a telling attack with 6km to go which Cummings and Matteo Montaguti (Ag2R) followed. The trio got a 10 second gap before 3 riders jumped across the gap to join them, Berhane was part of this move placing our African Team in a great position with 2 riders in the lead group of 6. STEVE Cummings has won the 14th stage of the Tour de France for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung! In a thrilling finale, Steve Cummings rode away from his breakaway counterparts to win the 14th stage of the Tour de France.

In another transitional stage of the Tour de France, Steve Cummings found himself in the main break of the day at the Tour de France for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung. Steve was joined by 19 other eager contenders as they built up an 8 minute lead over the peloton. It was looking good for the breakaway riders as the large lead group had no real adversaries in the peloton willing to chase them down.
