Eritrea has a positive and unique story to tell about health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Eritrea was one of the few countries expected to achieve the MDGs in health. As expected, Eritrea has now achieved all the three health MDGs namely MDG-4, reduce child mortality, MDG-5 improve maternal health and MDG-6 combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

Based on the latest data available and through an analysis of the trends of the eight MDGs, as well as the current supportive policy and political environment in Eritrea, this report tells the Eritrean experience in achieving MDGs 4, 5, 6.

Eritrea Making Impressive Progress Towards Achieving MDG: UN OCHA

Returning to New York after a two-day visit to Eritrea, OCHA Operations Director John Ging has welcomed improving cooperation between the United Nations and the Government amidst concerns over the impact of delayed rains on food insecurity.

“UN agencies are working with the Government to help the Eritrean people to help themselves,” said Mr. Ging. “Building resilience and self-reliance is our shared top priority.”

Stop Politicizing Human Rights

UN Human Rights Council shouldn’t allow the process and outcome of investigation by its rapporteurs to be politicized

The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea submitted her “report” to the UN Human Rights Council on 28 May 2013.

Though this report was expected to be the result of a thorough, accurate and impartial investigation in line with the mandate from the Council, a cursory look at it shows it falls far short of the goal.
