A high-level Sudanese delegation led by Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok arrived on Monday to Eritrea’s capital of Asmara for an official visit upon the invitation of President Isaias Afwerki.
Upon arrival at the Asmara International Airport, the delegation was accorded warm welcome by HE Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs and Presidential Adviser.
The high-level Sudanese delegation was comprised of the Ministers of Trade & Industry, Internal Affairs,Transport & Infrastructure, Higher Education, and, Parliamentary Affairs.

At a meeting held with President Isaias Afwerki met at State House in the afternoon hours, the two leaders discussed enhancement of bilateral ties, progress of transition process in the Sudan as well as regional and international issues of mutual importance.
The two sides also agreed to develop the cooperation and partnership agreement between the two countries including in the sectors of economic, education, health as well as the historic relations.
PM Abdalla Hamdok expressed his government’s gratitude for Eritrea’s firm support to the people of Sudan during the past difficult times.
The Sudanese delegation departed home in the late afternoon hours after a fruitful one-day official visit to Eritrea
In June 2019, Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, the Sudanese Sovereign Council’s head also visited Asmara and held talks with President Isaias Afwerki.
During the visit, the two countries agreed to reopen the border, which was closed in 2018 as Sudanese-Eritrean relations was tense.
