Quick Thoughts on Special Rapporteur Sheila Keetharuth Presentation to UN Assembly

keetharuth UN Asembly
Sheila B. Keetharuth, member of the former Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea and Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Eritrea as well, encouraged the General Assembly to adopt a resolution submitting the Commission’s report to the Security Council for possible referral of the situation to the International Criminal Court.

By Aghade*,

Listening to Special Rapporteur Ms. Sheila Keetharuth make her final presentation yesterday to UN Assembly’s 3rd Committee was very strange, to say the least.

Leaving aside the politically motivated report that she predictably wheeled out, Ms. Keetharuth surprised us with her request for some sort of administrative power over Eritrea so that she can help run the country as she sees it fit and supposedly free the people of Eritrea from Eritrea itself.

Her subliminal argument would have been considered a joke had she not actually made specific recommendations as part of her final commentary to the committee.

One of her poignant recommendation was to require Eritrea delink its educational system from the country’s economic and security programs, specifically the national service. Really? Someone should have reminded her that higher education, in particular, is expected to be in sync with a country’s economic, social, security structures in order to produce the next generation of leaders.

For example, while countries like Korea, Singapore and Israel have incorporated national service as a way to strengthen their national defense capabilities, most South-American countries use national service as a practical policy solution to tackle unmet youth employment needs. Eritrea’s National Services Program too is designed not only to enhance its national security capability but also foster economic, cultural, and social development for its next generation leaders.

The other notable recommendation she proposed was to require Eritrea to cooperate fully with her to access unidentified “prisons.” Of course, she made this statement with a wink and a nod. In plain English, she was asking for unfettered access to sensitive military areas. This one is a big joke and here is the punchline: a few weeks ago Ms. Bronwyn Bruton told the U.S. House Subcommittee on Africa that she was surprised to learn how CIA analysts knew little about Eritrea and they asked her to find out to what extent the government controls the country outside the capital city of Asmara. This is where the Ethio-US plan comes full circle – i.e. to bring about regime change.

I must say that knowing what we know about Ms. Keetharuth’s anti-Eritrea agenda and the pressure she has been under after the Human Rights Council rejected the report this past June, I did expect dramatic and unexpected changes in her presentation but I got more than I anticipated.

Nonetheless, it was not difficult to see how these recommendations are in-fact part of the larger political game taking place in closed doors at the UN. Mind you, her recommendations are usually considered nonstarter at the UN because they infringe state sovereignty. In fact, last year the US rejected a request by a Special Rapporteur on torture to visit US prisons (including Guantanamo Bay), stating his request infringed the sovereignty of the US.

If there is one thing clear form Ms. Keetharuth presentation (along with some of the speeches made by diplomats from US, Ethiopia and Djibouti) is that both the US and Ethiopia’s mischievous use of human rights to bring about regime change in Eritrea is running out of steam. It is important to remember the Human Rights Council has already rejected the COI report for being full of lies and exaggerated stories. For this reason, today I am more confident than ever that Eritrea will defeat Ms. Keetharuth’s agenda a lot sooner.

Even at the UN, I expect Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity to ultimately prevail — doing the same thing over and over again will not bring different results for the sponsors of Ms. Keetharuth.

  1. She is a joke indeed! ! As the saying goes – dedehri adghi zekede terat adghi lemede- it seems she picked up the habit of clicking the local whipping boy and make a living out of it. What a shameful action on her part.

    1. Yeap, I thought I heard the same thing. President Shela of Ertra, LOL. we all known is a joke. inter city press called her phony too, and has been always a phony one … a quick recap always help …

  2. There is a toad-like ugliness to this nasty woman, which when added to her psychopathic nature for brazen lies, compounds the utter repulsiveness of her persona. I guess we will have to endure this evil thrust upon us for a few more months until her “mandate” is terminated. Of course, we all know that, ultimately, she’s just a puppet on a string, and that the real pure evil resides in the puppet masters pulling the strings behind the screen. It is quite a challenge for a young nation trying to walk upright along the righteous path of justice in a jungle of injustice filled with all kinds of evil jinn. (Courtesy of Elias Amare)

    1. I did see it and was hilarious. And she wanted run Ere …hahaha . At any rate, she didn’t understand her job was to solve a problem not just to follow instructions of her bosses. That’s why Matt and everyone else called her a phony. I hope she is done for good

    2. Oh my God. Even reporters boycotted her usual boring BS. Everyone was tired of her bullshit nonsense. Glad to see her losing ground.

    3. Isn’t Mr. Mathew Russell Lee, an awesome journalist. He has been on their foot always asking the right question while doing excellent research on the subject. It does not matter which country is being harassed by the UN, he is always digging for the truth. After all, he is the founder of inner city press. Kudos to Mr. Mathew Lee.

  3. Honestly, she is really incompetent. She can’t even respond in coherent, full sentences that make sense. She is just a dark- skinned lady that was picked to stick it to an African country. Thanks to the NAM countries for supporting Eritrea’s righteous position.

  4. The veracity of Shiela Keethraruth’s report has already been assailed by the different governments that sent their own fact finding envoys to Eritrea.

  5. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia, Iran, Burundi, Egypt, Venezuela and China. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for being true friends and defended Eritrea at today’s General Assembly.

Another development that happened today was the election of new UN Human Right Council member for a 3-year term of office starting from Jan. 1, 2017. These are South Africa, Rwanda, Tunisia, Egypt, Hungary, Croatia, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, UK and USA.

Russia, however, lost its place for Saudi Arabia, ooopppsss….

Except the US and UK, all the other elected members are Eritrea friendly. This means it is a very bad news for Sheila B. Keetharuth, her Ethiopian sponsors and our useful idiots.

      1. You are wrong. When it comes to Eritrea, Russia proved to be a trusted partner and thanks to her that most of the resolution for sanctions are watered down. Who do you think stand beside us during security council show downs apart from South Africa and China? It’s the Russians. Do not undermine what they did to us, small or big.

Sheila keetharuth’s requested==>> for administrative power over Eritrea so that she can help run the country as she sees it fit and supposedly free the ppl of Eritrea from Eritrea itself. Wtf is This b!tch Smoking!! She is insane. ???????? I guess “In a mad world, only the mad are sane.” LOL.. ????

To run our beloved Eritrea as she sees it fit, this is not Ethiopia or another neo-colony, this is Eritrea!! We Never Kneel Down!! Let alone a foreigner to run our country, even those so called opposition-groups will never set foot inside Eritrea to run it!! Oh sheina> Flirting with madness was one thing; but to request for it, well that’s just Insane. Haha????????

U just made a fool out of yourself stinky sheina. Even the CIA themselves had hard time achieving that wet dream. So how a stinky Sheina like yourself is going achieve that. What a stinky crazy bitch. This is pure perfection of insanity!!

Did she just requested that seriously!! Unf**kingbelievable!! Well it really is obvious that she and her handlers knows they will not going nowhere after the slap we gave them about that so called masterpiece 1st report, and now they know they are doomed to fail so they have no choice but to request these (I don’t even know ????what to call it) except insanity itself. LOL.. ????????

It’s cool tho, cuz now it really is easy to predict this loco-bitch is going to be defeated. Let’s just keep on being vigilant deqi Eritrea!!

    1. Insane is putting it mildly. It is not even worth repeating this administrative bs, Ms. Sheina kunturo is gone bananas. I feel bad for Eritrean officials who have to respond to such shenanigans, those brave men and women are reduced to this bs. ( che pecato).

    2. the writer is saying her recommendations amount to her wanting to administer the country. at the very end of her commentary at very end of the video, she indeed provided some of her wish list, just as the this writer indicated above. after listening to her, it sounds she really think the country is in disarray and someone has to go their clean it up.

      1. I know, Sheila is a pathological liar, and now everyone knows her. She will be defeated without breaking a sweat. ????

  7. The Hoax story of the two Eritrean air force pilots and the New York demo by a handful of traitors (love to see their numbers dwindled by the day) including the devil worshiper priest Aba Habtu are all set to bring the spotlight on Eritrea but guess what? Member states were not ignorant any more to figure the disparity between the hate filled, regime change tipped report and the actual reality on the ground.

Countries are more aware by the day and when a house nigger such as Shiela appear on the podium to sell that crap wrapped with glossy human right piece of sheet, no one is interested anymore.

Besides, no one at this difficult time wants to add kerosene by referring another yet African country over the ICC fire as that colonial institution is already in a deep trouble as Africans realized what it stands for and began abandoning it. Simply put, the timing is wrong and Shiela and her backers from behind end up eating dust at the end of the day. God / Allah is on the people and Government of Eritrea side. Now, the table has to turn and start to check the mother of all human right abusers, the malelit regime in Ethiopia.

  8. Venezuela’s representative, speaking on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement, said the selective adoption of country-specific resolutions exploited human rights for political purposes and that such matters were better left to existing mechanisms, such as the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council. Many called instead for engagement in a spirit of cooperation and dialogue.

    https://www.un.org/press/en/2016/gashc4179.doc.htm

    1. [….] The representative of Eritrea said he saw little value of entering into dialogue with a biased Special Rapporteur. He preferred an approach marked by dialogue and understanding and which took note of Government achievements. The country mandate was unwarranted for Eritrea and an insult to Africa. The most appropriate venue for such discussions was the Human Rights Council and he rejected a politicized approach.

The Government’s priority was to protect its people, live in harmony and build its political system. Political participation, including of women, was high. Eritrea was committed to development. It was an independent and modest regional actor and favoured engagement. Further, national ownership was an undeniable pillar for nation-building. Women’s and children’s rights were protected and remote areas were being developed. He acknowledged that achievements were modest and that Eritrea had a long way to go, but the Government shouldered its international obligations and cooperated with international human rights mechanisms. Yet, it was being treated unfairly, singled out for human rights violations, while those in other countries went unnoticed.

    2. [….] During the ensuing dialogue, delegates raised questions and concerns about ongoing human rights violations, impunity and engagement with the international human rights mechanisms. Several asked about follow-up to issues and recommendations, while others reiterated their opposition to the selective and politicized nature of country mandates, stressing that the Human Rights Council, particularly the Universal Periodic Review, were the most appropriate venues for the promotion and protection of human rights.

    3. here is the funnier part…..

The representative of Ethiopia said the mayhem in his country was the result of the deployment of Eritrean terrorists. Eritrea had destabilized the Horn of Africa and committed crimes against humanity. Eritrea was on the Committee’s agenda, he said, not Ethiopia. [admin: your turn won’t be that far]

    4. [….] Ms. KEETHARUTH reiterated her commitment to “look at all comments” in the implementation of her mandate. She welcomed Eritrea’s engagement with the international community, which should lead to tangible improvements for its citizens, such as improved treatment of detainees. Building trust was required, internally and externally.

Regarding forced labour, she said citizens must have a choice as to whether and how they wished to work. Development, while important, did not give license to violate human rights. Any engagement with the United Nations must work towards ending impunity, with human rights violators punished. Engagement with United Nations bodies should not be selective. Access to Eritrea had only been given to the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights to a model prison and only for 15 minutes. More time was needed for a proper assessment.

    5. […] Participating in the discussion were representatives of Venezuela (also on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement), Myanmar, Djibouti, United States, Zimbabwe, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Ecuador, Ethiopia, China, Norway, Cuba, Belarus, Bolivia, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Switzerland, the Russian Federation, Pakistan, Burundi, Iran and Egypt, as well as the European Union.

This are a bunch of Agametat and sore losers. And in the end we’re going to hunt them down like the animals they are.

  9. The SR lucks credibility, accountability and incompetent for the task she is hired. As a result, The UN body is losing credibility and respect by all Nations, with exception the special interest and those abuse their power and influence to bring peace and justice in this earth. The SR presentation clearly is politically motivated lucks merit and credibility. She should be fired and tried for defamation of member state character, in return the UN body can safe their credibility across the world. what a shame…Shame on you not just SR but the UN as a whole. Now I understand why the US citizens don’t have any respect for the UN!!!

      1. Good news Elias Meseret Taye credential is revoked after he falsely reported that two Eritrean pilots defected to Ethiopia with their military jet.
