Eritrea’s permanent representative to the African Union and UNECA, H.E Ambassador Girma Asmerom, today made a wonderful speech on behalf of H.E. President Isaias Afwerki. The part that caught everyone’s attention and with total agreement was his speech on the situation between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
In his eloquent remarks, he clearly stated that his country is not setting preconditions to normalize relation with Ethiopia but simply requesting the parties to fulfill their obligations. Interestingly, he assured the heads of States that gathered at the AU headquarter in Addis Ababa to discuss issues on the continent by saying that, according to a special instruction he received from President Isaias Afwerki, “if Ethiopia withdraws its army from occupied sovereign Eritrean territory including the town of Badme in the morning, dialogue between the two countries will start in the afternoon.”
