Ethiopia: Dozens of Ethnic Oromo Protesters Killed

The resistance is spreading ...
The resistance is spreading …

By TesfaNews,

ETHIOPIAN security forces today reportedly killed more than 20 ethnic Oromo students after opening fire while protesting peacefully in the western Oromia town of Ambo.

Eye witness reports indicate that eight among the dead are students.

In recent days ethnic Oromo students, opposition and activists in Ethiopia are ratcheting up opposition to the territorial expansion of the capital city under the guise of  the “Addis Ababa Integrated Development Master Plan” that was unveiled earlier this month.

According to leaked documents, the proposed plan will expand Addis Ababa’s boundaries to 1.1 million hectares, covering an area more than 20 times its current size. Under this plan, 36 surrounding Oromia towns and cities will come under Addis Ababa’s jurisdiction.

Oromo students, opposition and activists say the plan will undermine Oromia’s constitutionally granted special interest.

After the killings, the peaceful ethnic Oromo protest is shaping itself into an Oromo students movement and quickly spreading to Adama, Dire Dawa, Addis Ababa and other regions and cities.

According to local reports, thousands of students in all regional universities in Oromia, namely Jimma, Haromaya, Ambo, Wollega, Metu, Bolu Hora, Adama and Maddawalabu, in recent days participated in the city wide demonstration demanding an immediate halt to the city’s ‘disingenuous’ plan.

Ethnic Oromo were the original inhabitants of the land and have social, economic and historical ties to the city of Addis Ababa, which they used to call it Finfinne, that was conquered through invasion in 19th century.

Woyanai, Woyanai ,your time has come to pack your looted / begged dough an head for Dedebit again:)
It is about time the Oromo people assumed their rightful place in Ethiopia.

    • Mr Halal

It is your hay day,you have some thing to chew like the horses in the barn. They have freedom of speech and expression unlike your north Korea of Africa.
      20 Years of Independence?
Not for the Eritrean Youth !

      Miss in not.

It is your hay day,you have some thing to chew like the horses in the barn. They have freedom of speech and expression unlike your north Korea of Africa.
For your information Ethiopia gov.is led by EPRDF ,formed from all nation and nationalities unlike your country by one man from Tembien.
      The President is from Oromia.
      The PM is from Wolayita.
      The V/PM is from Amhara
The Mayor of AA is from Oromia.
I don't under stand why you are barking on Wayane 24/7
Who handed your Independence on silver platter.
You have your sovereign country, build it up together instead tearing it down.WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.

        Mr Halal,
You live in a fantasy land. How can you claim Ethiopia has freedom of speech when people are getting shot and arrested by government forces for peaceful protest? Everyone including your former leader Mengistu knows that the TPLF would never be in power without EPLF, why don’t you go read his autobiography and learn something about your history. Every government official you mentioned is a token and a puppet, they were placed in their respective positions because of their loyalty to Wayane, and most Ethiopians already know this. Elections in Ethiopia are not worth the paper the ballots are printed on.
Michael Steele was the chairman of the RNC but no one took him seriously because he was just a token black puppet encouraged and used by the RNC for propaganda purposes. The RNC needed a black face and they found one. Weyane are not stupid.

        • Mr Halal

TPLF would never in power with out EPLF.LOL !!!!!!
That is the other way around.SHABIA was going to betray the Eritrean people struggle by striking a deal with Derge.Go to ESAT archive and watch the interview with Major (Shaleka) Dawit G/giorgis.
The reason for it was Shabia had no hope of winning the fight with the Derge. It was TPLF who rejected the deal and went all the way to the end and deliver Independence to the Eritrean people.
On the last leg,Shabia was surrounded by the Derg in Shale to its demise,if it were not for TPLF fighters led by Samora it would have been the end of Shabia.
Major (Shaleka) Dawit G/giorgis was the governor of Eritrea for a brief moment.
You will deny it hundred times, but that is the truth.

          • Halhal

            Mr. Woayne beggar
You retarded Woyane beggar. You are a clueless but the writing is on the wall. You should packing your looted and begged collections and head for the Dedebit again.
Here is a little poem for you my friend
Woyanai, aye Woyanai hasawi do kibleka weys lemanai
Ghezeka aklu eyu atta aregit shraf hadammai

          • Info

Like I said, go read your former leaders autobiography. Everyone knows how TPLF came to power on the back of the EPLF. It is common knowledge even in Ethiopia. Many Ethiopians (non Tigrayans of course) still blame Eritrea/EPLF for bringing the TPLF to power in Ethiopia. TPLF have caused nothing but misery to the non Tigrayan people of Ethiopia with their ethnocentric government policies and have systematically destroyed the national pride most Ethiopians use to have. The TPLF as a minority ethnic group with a small support base knows the only way they can maintain power in Ethiopia is by a divide and rule policy. The TPLF would not even be in a position to play the divide and rule strategy if were not for the EPLF training and enabling them. Go read Mengistu's book, the man has no reason to lie and has nothing to gain from doing so at this stage in his life. You live in a fool's paradise. You can try to marginalize EPLF and boost up TPLF for your own self-confidence but everyone knows the truth.

          • Info

I am not concerned with this Dawit Wolde Giorges or whatever comes out of his mouth. Even If what he said has elements of truth (meaning TPLF assisted in a battle), big deal. You seem to be describing a battle in which EPLF trained TPLF fighters assisted their fellow revolutionaries in fighting off Ethiopian imperial forces. The importance of said battle in relation to the overall 30 year struggle for independence (aside from questions of the veracity of Giorge’s claims, which I am sure are questionable at best) is negligible.

          • Info

I am well aware of what is commonly called the Woyane Rebellions and I am glad you have brought it up and I wish more Ethiopians (non-Tigrayans) were familiar with the rebellions. The Tigray people have fought sporadically for self-autonomy and independence for at least 70 years and have always been crushed by the Ethiopian state and their western allies/handlers (that is until ELF/EPLF).

          • Info

Haile Selassie’s (Shewan) were dependent on western military support and aid. Mengistus (The Derg) was dependent on soviet military support and aid. And finally the TPLF are dependent on western aid and military support, more so than any of the previous governments of Ethiopia. Some Tigray rebel groups who fought against the Shewa and the Derg wanted self-autonomy in a federation with Ethiopia and others wanted complete independence from Ethiopia (I would argue that most wanted complete independence but that is not always practical). The Tigray people have never truly come to terms with the Ethiopian state and matters dealing with their national identity. Many Tigray people still have very negative views toward the state of Ethiopia, a state which they now control, and that it is why it is widely believed they (not all Tigray but TPLF) are trying to destroy and fragment Ethiopia.

          • Info

The TPLF’s plan to take Assab and secure the option of creating a Greater Tigray with access to the sea failed and as a result they have lost any chance of Tigray becoming a viable independent state. The region known as Tigray can never become a truly independent nation without access to the sea. Tigray does not have any natural resources (the majority of fertile land, gold, coffee, all come from the Oromia/Amara/Ogaden and the Gambella regions). Now the TPLF leadership is stuck between a rock and a hard place, they have been pilfering Ethiopia and working day and night to create divisions amongst the other ethnic groups in Ethiopia all with the possible end game of becoming an independent state if things got too hot. Now they have failed to secure Assab and they have ruined any possibility of getting help from Eritrea in the event that they face a backlash in Ethiopia from an uprising by the other ethnic groups (which is going to happen).

          • Info

The TPLF are widely hated and despised in Ethiopia (do not listen to what these Pro TPLF commentators say on Ethiopian and Eritrean websites, they don’t even represent 5% of the sentiment in Ethiopia) and their tactics are common knowledge. There is no way this minority group of less than 7% of the population can continue to subjugate and rule the other 93% of the population with empty promises of self-autonomy, even with complete western support.

It looks like the pressure is getting to much to handle for the slave minded weyane gangsters.

Woyane died the day Meles died. The rest is just waiting for the wrath of the Ethiopian people. This time Eritrea is not going to rescue woyane. They are on their own.

Why do you all lie? … the truth will prevail tomorrow morning … the plan doesn't say anything about jurisdiction and integrate development Plan is what we need … not only Addis and Oromia, Europe has an integrated development plan. What is happening in the internet front is only for political consumption of some people who want to gain cheap popularity from such event. For me as Oromo, Finfine and the surrounding Oromia will grow as integrated as possible.
