  • Asmara Africa’s secret modernist city

Collection of signature to nominate Asmara on the list of UNESCO World Heritage is gaining momentum

Super! Very attractive. Well documented and organized beautiful picturers! What i like from us is it is well protected and preserved. “mosa neadlaweti yegebome”

      • jordi

        It is NOT well preserved.
Also, why should focus on building more buildings, modern buildings. We are in deep need of infrastructure, I mean look at Addis Abeba. But we know the reasons why.. so let’s not bring that up.

And no, I am not agame. Don’t even bother saying that.

        • forto sawa

Don’t falter, we know you are sweet as a candy-man!

To tell y the truth to build infrastructure we need a huge investment and necessary accessories besides enough water and electricity. Don’t try to compare Addis with Asmara. Our neibors get a lot of fund (not loan) and aids. Comparatively Addis is blessed with enough rain and also have big dams to provide enough electricity. Urbanization is saffocating the city and there are times where you see shortcomings also. Personally, I am satisfied with the pace our country is moving. After saying this the issue here is on preserving old tangible things like the available buildings etc. Imagine Eritrea has 30 years war and y could be right that many of them can be worn out. With all challenges we have good documentation and tangible things to register in UNESCO. I hope y know what UNESCO stands for. I knew Eritrean documentation center from its inception. From time to time they were able to collect many historical facts.

The idea is commendable and thanks to the donors. The pharmaceutical firm once opened in my country came into my mind. How is this firm doing? Last time there was an issue on VOA regarding patients who are getting treatment in Sudan and are helped by some philanthropists. Strengthenng this firm both professionally, materially and financially would bring a big change. I believe the treatment would be better if they get the treatments in our hospitals if it is well equipped. The patients would be comfortable if the necessary medicines are available in the country and as a result accomodation problem would be avoided. Pls Tesfa bring this issue on this forum and let us discuss on it. I am sure the same donation be it in kind and in monetry would be secured.
