Ethiopia: The “Fantastic Somalia job”

Doing the Dirty Job in Somalia

Alemayehu G. Mariam, 6 December 2010

The Tangled Web of Lies:

“Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive,” said Sir Walter Scott, the English novelist and poet. It looks like the U.S. of A is really in a pickle tangled in a web of lies, deceit and diplomatic chicanery about its role and involvement in the 2006 invasion of Somalia by the dictator in Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi. The truth about the “fantastic Somalia job” (invasion), as the crown prince of Abu Dhabi called it, is now coming to light in the diplomatic cables acquired by Wikileaks, the organization dedicated to publishing sensitive documents from anonymous sources and whistleblowers. David Axe (Wired.com) citing Wikileaks cables last week argued that the U.S. had actually hired Zenawi to “do its dirty work” in Somalia. ERITREA: High time to Annul and Repeal the illegal, UNfair sanctions

UNjust

By Sophia Tesfamariam,  4 December 2010

On 15 January 2009, in her Statement of before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Permanent Representative-Designate Susan E. Rice said:

…There is no country more capable than the United States to exercise leadership in this global institution, and to help frame its programs and shape its actions. Ethiopia: A Defining Moment for the People of Tigray

Ethiopian Tigray Region

05 December 2010,

Amanuel Biedemariam

For a while many Tigrayans, some openly and some behind the curtains, have been ripping some benefits from the tyrannical Meles regime unashamedly, boldly and with impunity. They are benefiting at the expense of all Ethiopian ethnic groups in many ways in the name of Tigray. Why this issue warrants an attention is the fact that they are benefiting more than any ethnic group; while claiming to be Ethiopians. But most importantly, they are doing it at the expense of the people in the region be it Ethiopians, Somalis, Eritreans or The Sudanese and in many ways.    Continue reading Ethiopia: A Defining Moment for the People of Tigray

Thank you Zersenay Tadese!

By Amanuel Biedemariam

Ever since he burst upon the scene in 2002, Zersenay Tadese has proven that he is the embodiment and example of what Eritrea is all about; resilient, consistent and victorious. Like my fellow Eritreans around the world, I have been wowed by what he has been able to achieve for himself and, by extension, for the people of Eritrea in general.  Continue reading Thank you Zersenay Tadese!
